A welcome without pressure
Walking into a new group can feel exciting and uncertain at the same time. A welcoming space lets you introduce yourself at your own pace. You should not have to perform, prove yourself, or join every activity to deserve a place in the conversation.
At Games and Connect, belonging is a value we want to put into practice. No event can promise that everyone will always feel comfortable, but each of us can make choices that show respect for the people around us.
Ask, listen, and leave room for no
Ask before taking or sharing a close-up photo of someone. Respect a person's decision to sit out a game. Let people decide whether to share their phone number or social profile, without repeated requests.
Friendly competition should stay friendly. Avoid jokes that single someone out for their appearance, background, ability, or level of experience. Encouragement goes further than embarrassment.
Make inclusion practical
Notice who has not found a team yet and offer an invitation, not an obligation. Explain a game's rules to someone who is new. Leave space for quieter voices, and remember that taking a break is part of enjoying a day out.
If you have access needs or questions about an activity, contact us before booking to discuss the particular event. Do not assume every venue or activity will suit every need.
If something makes you uncomfortable during an event, speak to an organiser when you can. You do not have to settle a disagreement by yourself or continue an activity that does not feel right for you.
